After being thrust into the University of life at the age of 20,
I worked my way up through rank and file and eventually became a sales manager with Toshiba & Coe Marketing after many years of foray into the multifunction copier business.
My sense of adventure and desire to be my own boss would go on to take me to Japan, after I was inspired by E-Commerce startups of the dot.com era, to set up a specialist online business dealing with performance car parts. The business was profitable and when an offer came knocking, I sold off the business and head back to Singapore.
Returning to the scene of the then recovering real estate, I joined as a rookie agent in 2006 on the back of a slowly booming market due to the high number of foreigner influx, I was able to make a sustainable pay cheque and eventually rose to take on managerial and directorial positions in agencies such as Knight Frank, Savills and SLP Scotia, the last which saw me being promoted to the role of Project IC, another term for project manager in 2011.
In 2014, after being ironically head hunted due to my high profile status as a leader in the real estate industry I decided to take up the offer from SPH and took this opportunity to return to a more routine life so that I can spend more time with my family especially my now 5 years old daughter.
In my next stint as a Senior Manager for SPH Digital Division, I am involved in high-level strategy development and am responsible for maintaining strong relationships with key contacts in existing accounts, as well as developing new contacts and relationships.
I also keep a close eye on market trends and identify gaps and niches that represent new business opportunities. This involves continual business prospecting and maintaining high volume pipeline management. I'm analytical and thorough in developing business plans and strategies with my real estate (Guerilla) background.
Yours Sincerely
Dennis Tan
